Few days back, I came across the website “Right To
Information”. It’s an Indian
organization whose vision and objective is to create awareness in the people
about their basic rights. Their concept made me flabbergasted about the
question rose in my mind that is our nation really unaware about its own rights?
My mind said no but my conscience bowed down in front of their idea.
This is very unfortunate with the two biggest
countries of the largest continent that they are being deceived with the name
of being democratic. The word democracy, sometimes, put me in bittersweet
state. Is this a democracy that I cannot go to my school in the days of boycott
or when strike is called? Do I live in democratic country where my urdu
speaking fellow is being persecuted in the hands of sindhi fellow or vice
versa? Do we really call it democracy where people are being killed brutally
and then left in the baggage at trash? Is this the value of democracy that
extortionists have spread terror all over the city? What is the use of that democracy that even
after having one of the largest army in the world, we cannot control the law
and order situation in the city and deweaponize the country? Is this a
democratic country where inflation is created on wheat, rice and sugar to make
more profit by exporting them? If swearing upon Quran, blaming an individual or
one political party for the created fuss and expressing truths while using
slangs and abusive language shows democracy and if the person in the drunken
state, sings burkay mein rehnay do while
dancing and calls himself the leader of peace and democracy then it is better
to live in autocracy than being the citizen of democratic third world country.
You might not agree with my conclusion but I, like many of the Pakistanis, am
in the dilemma about where are we going and where is our country heading us
towards?
This blog is not about democracy v/s autocracy but
what actually forced me to type these words here is the thought, prevailing in
my mind since last few days that the above mentioned acts of these so called
leaders do not represent democracy but some Mohalla
type politics and we are trapped in it. Their politics in the guise of
democracy, is ailing rather snatching our rights of living. I cannot blame
Pakistan specifically for that because it is also accompanied by its neighbor in
this race but the acceptance of Lokpal
Bill and the promotion of many organizations like Right to Information have showed that it is running to counteract
the adverse effect of so called democracy. It’s the time to modify our vision
about politics. We have to realize that democracy is far beyond of what
actually showed to us on press conferences and addresses. Thus, it cannot be
achieved by singing a song of calling your country democratic.
Good one.
ReplyDeleteDemocracy gives people right to live independently, yet in accordance with the law of the country. This is mandatory for all citizens, irrespective of post, position, status and family, to abide by the law. If it is done so strictly, we will Insha Allah live in a democratic country.
I appreciate your thoughts.
Information is not knowledge.

Woo! I arrived late on precious writing. You’d acquired very polite inspiration from an Indian organization website. I appreciate your point of views about democracy but, one thing which is pondering in mind after reading your writing; either you inscribe it down in idealistic situation or in the situation which is created by Pakistani media termed as Mediophobia. There are lots of points in your writing which can be discussed in detailed but I’ll try my best to concise it. You compared two great countries with democratic term but you missed the historical prospected of both the countries, I would like to ask you; IS THERE DEMOCRACY IN PAKISTAN? (As you compared with great India)
I would like to set up my points from the statement “Right To Information”: When one start pointing out someone or the statement of any individual person, one must focus on both the pictures in our mind (the historical prospective and the current situation); you used very well your so-called democratic right (right to information) but, for your information your statements shows that you utilized the half of your right. As you pointed out a statement which was booted up by the media – “Burkay Mein Rehnay Do” but, you missed some democratic statements which were really democratic. (Now it’s your RIGHT to search them out)

ReplyDeleteThese kinds of works are gone through legislation in National Assembly and Provisional Assembly but, for you information – Do we really have democratic assemblies? Those who are in assemblies are really capable enough to deliver? You might have an idea that “half knowledge” is dangerous but, for your INFORMATION excess of knowledge in more dangerous in society where we are living as you mentioned “Third World Country”. What has been happening in Pakistan since independence you might know very well but still “Burkay Mein Rehnay Do”
ReplyDeleteThere are lots of things in my mind about your word used in blog “vice versa” but that will be excess of information for you at this time and will not be appropriate on blog.
“Be realistic rather then idealistic”
Well i agree with ur thoughts madiha. It is always said and accepted to be true "Taali hamesha dono hathon se bajti hai". Both the parties, that u have mentioned indirectly here, are even worse than animals. The press conference by MQM's leader could not answer even a single allegation from zulfiqar mirza. I agree MQM has been taking "Bhatta" in the form of "Jaanwaron ki khaalain" and in many other ways too. Every year they come to my home and ask for "Khaal" and if you deny to give it to them, they start threatening you. You are right to say that there is no democracy in our country because where there is democracy, there is freedom of speech and this freedom of speech was not given to one of my far relatives' 20 years old son when he spoke something against Mr. Altaf Hussan, and that guy was brutally killed. His parents could not even go to a police station to get an F.I.R. registered for his murder because of life threats.
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to showing a caliber and integrity of a real and true leader, Mr. Altaf Hussain failed to impress me again. I am really disappointed with his press conference. The way he talked never reflected an image of a true leader like Quaid-e-Azam rather that press conference made people laugh over him. And the biggest mistake they made, they asked Mustafa Kamal to sit in a press conference and that press conference will have long term effects over his image that he had built through his hard work and dedication towards the betterment of Karachi. Mustafa Kamal, whom i considered to be the best of the lot, has lost the trust of millions of his supporters because of lying in that press conference. His image has now been deteriorated. The question that comes to my mind is that why did Altaf Hussain not reject a single allegation that zulfiqar mirza has thrown towards him? In his whole press conference, he never said that all the allegations are wrong. So when you don't reject the allegations, you are actually accepting them. Instead of proving zulfiqar mirza wrong, he started playing a blame game.
Now on the other hand, Zulfiqar Mirza also showed that he is a "Perha likha jaahil". He has played his vital role in lighting up the fire of linguistic discrimination in Sindh. The urdu speaking people are being brutally treated in different universities of sindh. Urdu speaking students have been receiving life threats since long. The goons living in liyari have brutally murdered many urdu speaking people which is again a devilish act.
To me both the parties are worse than animals but MQM wins the top position in this rank. I hope my comments are not gonna hurt anyone's feelings. We are living in a democratic country, so I have the right to express my thoughts.
And yes your question "Are we living in a democractic country?" is realistic and needs to be addressed.

My dear Brother Salman Shaikh, I appreciate your mentioned proclamation but, you become personalize while commenting on the Blog. You not only showed reflection of "Taali Hamesha Dono Hathon Se Bajti Hai" amateurishly, but also used another Urdu idiom “Dosra Ka Khanda Per Rakh Kar Bandok Chalana”. You fired on my comments while using your “FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION”.
Firstly, come to Zulfiqar Mirza allegation; brother, you yourself used an Urdu terminology towards Zulfiqar Mirza "Perha Likha Jaahil", in your conclusion remarks but, you are demanding answer of allegations planted by “Perha Likha Jaahil” person. (For your information I’m neither MQM leader nor Political analyst but, you can read complete story of Z.M written by Javed Chaudhry named “Zulfiqar Mirza Ki Khani” – a well known Pakistani political analyst and columnist).
For your Right of Information - Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Sunday said that Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik has written him to set up a judicial commission to look into former senior Sindh minister Dr Zulfikar Mirza’s volley of blatant accusations hurled at him (Malik) and others. Further more, just for your Right to Express – that kind of allegations are not new for MQM which had been stigmatized in the past with false accusations of Junnahpur.
Secondly, your allegations about Syed Mustafa Kamal press conference – my brother he hasn’t lost trust and respect of millions of his supporter but yours; due to unknown reason – as far as in my knowledge the reason might be correct according to one of your cousin. (One week in Karachi; Here, I’m not using my Right of Freedom)
Finally, thank you so much for your top positioning - “A’lfat Ma He Na Sahi – Tari Mahfil Ma Mara Zikar Tu Aaya”.
I won’t conclude my comment like (yours) scratching the back but, with a simple line: “Koi Sumjha Ga Kya Raaz-e-Gulshan; Jab Tak Aulja Na Kanto Sa Da’aman”

ReplyDeleteAleem i think u need to look into realities instead of just coming up with ur assumptions and what u learn from media. I did not fire my comments towards u. Thats the way u took me. Thats the way i think MQM is and thats the way i have been watching them doing things. My cousin was one of the thousands who were and are being murdered brutally by MQM. And secondly you have taken my comments amateurishly as u said "Doosre k kandhay pe bandook rakh k chalana". Neither do i need to use anyone else's shoulder nor anyone else needs to use my shoulder to fire. Everyone has his right to express his/her thoughts. Rather ur comments look fired towards the author's.
ReplyDeleteI called Zulfiqar Mirza "Perha likha jahil" because of the way he put those allegations on MQM. He should have rather gone to the court and provided them the proof. Second reason for calling him "Perha likha jahil" was the fuss that he uttered about urdu speaking people by calling them "Bhooka Nanga" which lit up the fire of linguistic discrimination.
Our respected Altaf bhai needs to re-take the history course from grade 8th. Quaid-e-Azam always talked about Islamic socialism. "Pakistan ka matlab kia, LA ILAHA ILLALLAH", was the basis for the foundation of Pakistan and Altaf bhai denies this, he seems to be ill-informed.
MQM needs to answer those allegations, but i know they won't because they can't. Mustafa Kamal said in the press conference, "Mai Allah ko haazir naazir jaan k kehta hun k MQM mai koi criminal nahi hain", which in itself is the biggest lie and everybody knows that. And then he denied to accept the ownership of one of the old offices of MQM in London which was then accepted later on by Haider abbas rizvi as MQM's office in an interview. I wud suggest u to not to blindly defend MQM, just because of the fact that u r an urdu speaking guy. I am also an urdu speaking guy but I have seen people being brutally treated by MQM. No one can defend MQM for their brutal and goonish acts.
As far as Javed Chaudhry's article is concerned, I have read it and I never defended Zulfiqar Mirza in my comments. He himself is a criminal.
I am not favoring people's party too. I am saying all of them are criminals and none of them is sincere with either urdu speakers or sindhi speakers.
I am again mentioning that its my personal thought, I fired my comments towards MQM but not U, so plz don't take them personally.
Or bhai mere...mera daaman bohat dafa kaanton mai uljha hai tab ja aankhen khuli hain or samajh aaya hai k mere aas paas kia horaha hai. Shayad tumhara daaman abhi nahi uljha MQM k kaanton mai :) jab uljhega, tau us din poochunga tumse :)
Brother, very calm and self-styled pragmatic comment!!!
ReplyDeleteMy dear brother, nether I’m adding oil into the fire nor you’re putting fire into the oil. We both are using our personal though. (It is significant to mention here)!
If that "Perha likha jahil" had better to visit court and provide the proof in “The Supreme Court” (as you mentioned); why you don’t go to the court with proofs and use your right against those criminal elements for your cousin and others “were and are being murdered by MQM (as you pointed out); CHIEF JUSTICE OF PAKISTAN Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry is taking “suo motu” notice/actions these days and you can also charge petition against them with proof while you are anywhere in the world. (Sorry for such statements; but, please consider this as a brotherly/friendly advice).
